Our

Background

The Mining Commission was established under the Mining Act 2010 as amended by Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendment) Act 2017. The Commission came into existence through the Government Notice No. 27 issued on 7th July, 2017.

The Commission has taken over all operational functions that were being performed by Minerals Division under Ministry of Energy and Minerals and all functions that were being performed by Tanzania Minerals Audit Agency (TMAA) and Tanzania Diamond Sorting Organization (TANSORT).

Services that we offer

LICENCING

Our function is to issue licences and regulate mining activities such as exploration, mining, processing, mineral trading and permits under the Mining Act, Cap.123 and its regulations.

MINERAL TRADE

Our function is to manage and control mineral trade and operations of all Minerals and Gem Houses. We conduct valuations of all minerals produced, provide identification certificates, and issue export or import permits. Additionally, we offer indicative prices for minerals produced in the country.

MINES SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Our services ensure quality assurance and quality control of mining operations in compliance with the Mining Act, CAP 123. It is our goal to safeguard all mining activities and promote safety, occupational health, as well as appropriate environmental management in relation to local, international, and the best available standards.

LOCAL CONTENT & CSR MONITORING

Our function is to supervise and monitor the implementation of local content plans prepared by licensees, contractors, subcontractors, and other allied entities. Additionally, we oversee the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility by mineral rights holders.

MINERAL LABORATORY SERVICES

The main function of this Laboratory is to audit the quality and quantity of minerals produced by large, medium and small-scale miners. It provides laboratory services commercially to mineral explorers, miners, mineral traders, buyers and exporters.
